Laiterie du Mont Manengouba is owned and operated by Alain Soumelong, Alain is an artisanal cheesemaker and promoter of tourism in the small, picturesque village of Mbouroukou in the Littoral Region of Cameroon. Alain learned his trade in 2009 from a fellow Cameroonian who studied milk preservation and transformation through Land O’Lakes Inc in Minnesota, USA. Since it’s opening in 2011, his small shop in Mbouroukou, offering all-natural, locally sourced cheese, yogurt, and butter has attracted visitors from all over the globe. The small, rural farming village of Mbouroukou is the gateway to Mount Manengouba’s twin crater lakes, and just a short drive to the breathtaking Ekom-Nkam Falls in Melong II. Due to its beautiful topography, agreeable climate, and proximity to two major attractions, the village is already a destination in the making. Whether you are interested in a relaxing wine and cheese tasting, a traditional Cameroonian dinner, a guided tour of the cheese making process from cow to wheel, a pre-hike breakfast, or a packed picnic lunch for your Crater Lake adventure, Alain’s Laiterie is a must see!
